Lyophilization removes water from a frozen material by sublimation under reduced pressure. The process begins with freezing, which converts liquid water into ice and concentrates dissolved solids. Primary drying then lowers chamber pressure so ice changes directly into vapor without passing through a liquid phase. Secondary drying raises the shelf temperature to remove bound water that remains after ice sublimation. The result is a dry, porous structure that can be reconstituted later.
Formulation composition influences whether freeze-drying produces an intact cake or a collapsed mass. Excipients such as sugars and polymers can raise the collapse temperature and provide bulk during drying. The critical temperature for primary drying is often the collapse temperature or the glass transition temperature of the maximally concentrated phase. If the product temperature exceeds this threshold, the frozen matrix may soften and lose structure. Established practice therefore links shelf temperature and chamber pressure to the formulation's thermal properties.
After lyophilization, a product's quality depends on residual moisture, cake appearance, and reconstitution time. Residual moisture is often measured by Karl Fischer titration or thermogravimetric analysis. A low moisture content can slow chemical degradation, but overly dry cakes may be brittle or slow to dissolve. Stability studies track these attributes over months under defined temperature and humidity conditions. Batch records link these measurements to specific process runs and help identify trends before a product fails specification.
Storage conditions for dried products usually aim to exclude moisture and oxygen. Vials are sealed under vacuum or with an inert gas, and stoppers must maintain a barrier during transport. Temperature recommendations vary; some materials remain stable at room temperature, while others need refrigeration or frozen storage. Humidity control is critical because dried cakes can absorb water rapidly once a container is opened. Desiccant packs and moisture-barrier bags add further protection during shipping.

Lyophilization, also called freeze-drying, is a dehydration process in which a solvent, usually water, is frozen and then removed by sublimation under reduced pressure. The method preserves heat-sensitive materials that would degrade in conventional drying. Large-scale use grew during the mid-twentieth century for blood plasma and antibiotics, and it later expanded to vaccines, enzymes, foods, and advanced materials. The process produces a dry, porous solid that usually reconstitutes rapidly. It is distinct from simple evaporation because the solvent bypasses the liquid phase during primary removal.
The process generally proceeds in three stages: freezing, primary drying, and secondary drying. During freezing, controlled cooling converts water into ice and may also crystallize or vitrify solutes. In primary drying, the pressure is lowered below the triple point, and heat is supplied so ice sublimes directly to vapor. Secondary drying removes water that remains bound to the solid matrix, yielding a low final water content. Product temperature must stay below the collapse or glass transition temperature to maintain structure. Cycle design therefore balances shelf temperature, chamber pressure, and time.
Storage stability depends on water content, oxygen exposure, and temperature. Lyophilized solids are hygroscopic and can absorb water if exposed to humid air. Vials are usually sealed under vacuum or inert gas with rubber stoppers and aluminum crimps. Storage temperatures range from room temperature to refrigerated or frozen conditions depending on the material. Stability studies track potency, moisture, and physical form over time. Accelerated conditions can reveal sensitivity but may not predict long-term behavior.
Analytical methods for lyophilized materials include X-ray diffraction for crystallinity, differential scanning calorimetry for thermal transitions, and scanning electron microscopy for pore morphology. Moisture sorption analysis shows how the cake responds to humidity. These methods help distinguish amorphous from crystalline states and detect phase changes. Open questions remain about how pore structure changes during long-term storage and how best to predict collapse under varied conditions. Comparisons across studies are complicated by differences in formulation, cycle, and storage history.
=== Interactions === There were eight interactions identified by Mentha. The first one was UFSP2 which hydrolyzes the peptide bond at the C-term gly of UFM1, a ubiquitin-like modifier protein bound to a number of target proteins. The second one was HSCB which acts as a co-chaperone in iron-sulfur cluster assembly in mitochondria. The third was GRB2 which is an adapter protein that provides a critical link between cell surface growth factor receptors and the Ras signaling pathway. The fourth was CYLD which is a protease that cleaves Lys-63-linked polyubiquitin chains, controls regulation of cell survival, proliferation, and differentiation, and is required for normal cell cycle progress. The fifth was ATM which activates checkpoint signaling upon double strand breaks, apoptosis, and genotoxic stress. The sixth was FAM177A1, the function of which is unknown. The last two were THID2 and Q81kP6 which are both in bacillus anthracis.
Some experts have argued that it is too early to regulate AI, expressing concerns that regulations will hamper innovation and it would be foolish to "rush to regulate in ignorance". Others, such as business magnate Elon Musk, call for pre-emptive action to mitigate catastrophic risks. In September 2026, Musk proposed that leading AI companies allow competitors to test their models before public release, arguing the independent testing by rival companies could identify safety concerns that might be missed through internal evaluations. Outside of formal legislation, government agencies have put forward ethical and safety recommendations. In March 2021, the US National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence reported that advances in AI may make it increasingly important to "assure that systems are aligned with goals and values, including safety, robustness and trustworthiness". Subsequently, the National Institute of Standards and Technology drafted a framework for managing AI Risk, which advises that when "catastrophic risks are present – development and deployment should cease in a safe manner until risks can be sufficiently managed". In September 2021, the People's Republic of China (PRC) published ethical guidelines for the use of AI in China, emphasizing that AI decisions should remain under human control and calling for accountability mechanisms.
Gepirone, sold under the brand name Exxua, is a medication used for the treatment of major depressive disorder. It is taken orally. Side effects of gepirone include dizziness, nausea, insomnia, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia (indigestion). Gepirone acts as a partial agonist of the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor. An active metabolite of gepirone, 1-(2-pyrimidinyl)piperazine, is an α2-adrenergic receptor antagonist. Gepirone is a member of the azapirone group of compounds. Gepirone was synthesized by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1986 and was developed and marketed by Fabre-Kramer Pharmaceuticals. It was approved for the treatment of major depressive disorder in the United States in September 2023. This came after the drug had been rejected by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) three times over two decades due to insufficient evidence of effectiveness.

=== Silver Medal at 1948 Summer Olympics === Yugoslavia began their football campaign by defeating Luxembourg 6–1, with five different players scoring the goals. In the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, they would take out Turkey and Great Britain by the same score of 3–1. In the final though, they would lose to Sweden.
CH3OH + H2S → CH3SH + H2O Such reactions are conducted in the presence of acidic catalysts. The other principal route to thiols involves the addition of hydrogen sulfide to alkenes. Such reactions are usually conducted in the presence of an acid catalyst or UV light. Halide displacement, using the suitable organic halide and sodium hydrogen sulfide has also been used. Another method entails the alkylation of sodium hydrosulfide.
== Adverse effects == The adverse side effects of amphetamine are many and varied, and the amount of amphetamine used is the primary factor in determining the likelihood and severity of adverse effects. Amphetamine products such as Adderall, Vyvanse, and their generic equivalents are currently approved by the U.S. FDA for long-term therapeutic use. Recreational use of amphetamine generally involves much larger doses, which have a greater risk of serious adverse drug effects than dosages used for therapeutic purposes.

=== Legal status === For follicular lymphoma, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) awarded copanlisib orphan drug designation in February 2015, and fast track designation in February 2016. The New drug application for follicular lymphoma was granted priority review in May 2017. In September 2017, it received accelerated approval for the treatment of adults experiencing relapsed follicular lymphoma who have received at least two prior systemic therapies. Further clinical trials are to be performed as a post-marketing requirement to verify the clinical benefit. Copanlisib was granted orphan drug status for the treatment of splenic, nodal and extranodal subtypes of marginal zone lymphoma.
Directly dissolving SO3 in water, called the "wet sulfuric acid process", is rarely practiced because the reaction is extremely exothermic, resulting in a hot aerosol of sulfuric acid that requires condensation and separation. In the first step, sulfur is burned to produce sulfur dioxide:
Askari had shaken the South African government's confidence in its ability to retain the military advantage indefinitely in Angola. Heavier and more sophisticated weapons were being used, the rate of casualties had increased, and the air superiority that had accounted for many of the SADF's previous successes was diminishing. Nor was Botha and his cabinet certain of continued political and diplomatic support from the US, which had chosen to abstain rather than exercise its veto with regard to UN Security Council Resolution 546. The Reagan administration perceived that both Angola and South Africa had grown weary of the war and were more susceptible to pressure for a ceasefire and mutual disengagement. American diplomats offered to mediate peace talks accordingly, and on 13 February South African and Angolan officials met for the first time in Lusaka. Three days later, South Africa announced that it would withdraw its expeditionary forces from Cunene Province by the end of March, provided the Angolans agreed to prevent PLAN from taking advantage of the situation to infiltrate South West Africa. The Angolan government pledged to restrain PLAN and MK, and to prohibit any movement of Cuban troops southward towards the border. These respective commitments were formalised as the Lusaka Accords. FAPLA and the SADF agreed to set up a Joint Monitoring Commission (JMC) to police the disengagement. Under the JMC, joint South African and Angolan patrols were carried out along six hundred kilometres of the border.
one gene–one polypeptide Also one gene–one protein or one gene–one enzyme. The hypothesis that there exists a large class of genes in which each particular gene directs the synthesis of one particular polypeptide or protein. Historically it was thought that all genes and proteins might follow this rule by definition, but it is now known that many proteins are composites of different polypeptides and therefore the product of multiple genes, and also that some genes do not encode polypeptides at all but instead produce non-coding RNAs, which are never translated.

Primary drying removes ice by sublimation at low pressure and low shelf temperature. Secondary drying removes bound water by raising the shelf temperature, often under the same vacuum. The two stages differ in the water state being removed.
Freezing determines ice crystal size, pore structure, and the concentration of solutes in remaining liquid. Faster freezing generally creates smaller ice crystals and a denser dried matrix. These features affect drying rate and reconstitution behavior.
Lyophilization reduces water content but usually leaves a small amount of water in the dried material. Some water remains bound to solids or trapped in the dried matrix. Very low water targets can require extended secondary drying, which may alter product stability.
Karl Fischer titration is a common reference method that quantifies water by a chemical reaction. Thermogravimetric analysis can also estimate moisture by weight loss on heating. Method choice depends on sample size and whether other volatile substances are present.
